Union Pacific locomotive engineers ratify new 5-year contract

Union Pacific Loco Managers Win Significant Pay Increases

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) verified that 6,000 Union Pacific locomotive engineers voted unanimously for the contract. The pact assures a pay raise of at least 18.8%, increased health benefits, and accelerated accrual of vacation times.

BLET President Mark Wallace commented that the agreement fulfills major demands but does so without giving up work-rule protection. “It reimburses our members for their loyalty and guarantees pay remains ahead of inflation,” he added in the official release.

The new contract also increased daily meal allowances and maintains the 11/4 work-rest formula, which buffers engineers against exhaustion. Since pressures of inflation have been felt by railroad workers across the country, the contract reinstates fairness and consistency.

Union Pacific Locos Engineers Reinforce Track Stability

Union Pacific executives applauded ratification as a display of solidarity. The corporation commented a five-year pact permits long-term planning and spending on technologies, cutting risks stemming from possible work stoppages.

Close to 30,000 of its members have ratified new agreements this year, including over 12,600 at Union Pacific. The mass approval represents a trend of more cooperative times after years of strained negotiations during the pandemic.

Experts say this ratification binge is a growing acknowledgement of how U.S. freight efficiency depends on highly skilled engineers. With better pay and better conditions, Union Pacific hopes to keep brains and see increased performance across its routes.

It’s a new deal for engineers, better pay and renewed respect for their trade. It harmonizes economic growth and workforce welfare, steady service and sustainable railways for years to come.
