Before politics, Lincoln was a lawyer, representing the Illinois Central Railroad in key cases. He also worked with the Alton & Sangamon Railroad, later known as the Chicago & Alton Railroad. The locomotive’s colors reflect Alton’s historical design.

This marks Union Pacific’s second presidential tribute locomotive, following No. 4141, dedicated to George H.W. Bush. That locomotive was part of Bush’s funeral train and is permanently displayed at the George Bush Presidential Library in Texas.
