Ukrzaliznytsia has introduced a fully modernized railway carriage tailored to meet the needs of passengers using wheelchairs. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The company rebuilt the carriage at its own depot in Bakhmach, completing the work within three months. This new service sets a benchmark for inclusive rail transport across Ukraine.

Ukrzaliznytsia’s Barrier-Free Carriage as a Model for Inclusive Transport

Before starting the upgrade, Ukrzaliznytsia consulted with disability-focused organizations to ensure the design addressed real passenger needs. The result reflects thoughtful integration of practical solutions and inclusive standards.

According to Deputy Minister for Communities Development Oleksii Balesta, accessibility should be the rule—not the exception. He emphasized that Ukrzaliznytsia’s barrier-free carriage demonstrates how public transport can and should be inclusive and passenger-focused.

Passengers can submit a booking request online. After submission, a Ukrzaliznytsia representative will contact the requester to confirm trip details.
