Ukrzaliznytsia secures €180 million loan for gas power generation

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide Ukrzaliznytsia with a €180 million loan. These funds will finance small-scale gas generation with a capacity of up to 270 MW. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Bank representatives emphasized that the war in Ukraine has intensified the electricity shortage.

Therefore, this emergency investment program focuses on installing small power generation units. This initiative will ensure stable energy supply for both businesses and citizens.
Ukrzaliznytsia: Equipment distribution and implementation plans
The project includes placing gas power stations at existing Ukrzaliznytsia facilities. These units will be installed throughout Ukraine, including major industrial regions. This strategy aims to reduce the risks of energy supply disruptions.

According to preliminary documents, the total project cost is estimated at €248 million. Currently, the initiative is undergoing final approval. The bank’s board of directors is expected to announce its decision on December 4 of this year.
As part of the project preparation, Ukrzaliznytsia has already held public consultations. These discussions addressed the procurement of gas-powered energy units and their future application. This demonstrates the company’s high level of readiness to implement the initiative.
