Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) has announced the establishment of a new legal entity, LLC “UZ Energo”, aimed at constructing gas-fired power plants with a total capacity of up to 250 MW across Ukraine, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This initiative is a response to significant electricity shortages faced by the company, especially during the autumn-winter months.

Ukrzaliznytsia, holding a pivotal position in Ukraine’s energy system, not only ranks among the largest electricity consumers but also operates the electricity distribution and water supply systems.

The construction of new gas generator units will focus on regional centers, ensuring uninterrupted power supply to railway transport, social sectors, and critical infrastructure.

Establishing “UZ Energo” will enable Ukrzaliznytsia to effectively manage electricity production in compliance with legislation, ensuring reliability and sustainability of energy supply across Ukraine’s regions.

The company has already begun active negotiations with international financial organizations to swiftly implement this ambitious project necessary to support the country during periods of heightened energy demand.

This strategic decision underscores not only Ukrzaliznytsia’s importance in the country’s economy but also its readiness to address current and future challenges in the energy sector.
