Ukrzaliznytsia demonstrated a medical evacuation train
15.03.2024
Ukrzaliznytsia, along with the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the Medical Forces Command, showcased an evacuation train for the first time, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
“The first medical carriage, unparalleled in the world, was created in early March 2022. There were no drawings or technical documentation at that time, but there was a great need for such carriages. Railway workers and medics converted the first carriage in just 4 days. Today, the total number of carriages involved in medical evacuation in Ukraine is 62 units. Thanks to all the partners with whom we implement this extremely important project. The unique experience of railway workers, medics, and military personnel allows us to save lives – and this is what Ukrzaliznytsia has been doing since the beginning of the full-scale invasion,” noted the Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia, Yevhen Lyashchenko.
Starting from March 2022, medical carriages gradually became more complex and equipped with next-generation equipment.
All carriages, powered by generators, are fully autonomous and equipped with artificial lung ventilation machines, blood transfusion equipment, cardiomonitors, aspirators, and other medical devices.
There are even intensive care carriages with oxygen stations, and in some carriages, in the most critical cases, there is the possibility of performing emergency interventions while the train is in motion.
By the end of 2024, Ukrainian railway workers will convert another 8 carriages for the needs of medical evacuation and saving the lives of Ukrainian defenders.
