31.08.2024
JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” has announced the creation of a unique inclusive railcar designed for group transportation of passengers using wheelchairs, according to the Railway Supply news portal, citing Ukrzaliznytsia.
This innovative project, presented on August 30, is aimed at veterans, medical hubs, and public organizations that will actively participate in the development and testing of the new model.

The new railcar features a functional design that ensures comfortable movement for people with disabilities.
The railcar will be equipped with four separate compartments, each accommodating two passengers in wheelchairs and their companions.
This design allows for travel not only individually but also in small groups, providing the necessary space and amenities.
The design and production of the railcar will be carried out in close cooperation with public organizations and potential users.
This approach ensures that the final product will meet the needs and expectations of passengers with special requirements as closely as possible.
Currently, Ukrzaliznytsia has 50 railcars in its fleet with compartments adapted for passengers using wheelchairs.
However, the new railcar will be the first specifically designed for group transportation.
“We are systematically updating our fleet, equipping it with modern facilities for comfortable travel. The new project will enable us to create conditions for group transportation for rehabilitation, recreation, sports events, or simply travel,” said Chairman of the Board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia.”
The company plans to launch the first such railcar as early as next year.
The new railcar will be equipped not only for easy movement but also for comfortable stays throughout the journey.
Each compartment will have two sleeping sofas with adjustable angles to support the body.
For passenger convenience, there will be a control panel for lighting, a call button for the conductor, and a public address system.
The special sleeping areas for companions will not differ from the standard sleeping places, ensuring comfort for all passengers.
Additionally, the railcar will be equipped with a ramp for boarding and disembarking, a toilet adapted for people using wheelchairs, and spacious vestibules and entry areas for free movement.
Modern air conditioning and heating systems will also be present, creating comfortable conditions in any weather.
Thus, Ukrzaliznytsia continues its efforts to create an accessible environment for all passenger categories by introducing innovations and improving its fleet to enhance service quality.
