Ukrzaliznytsia Acquires 20 New Hyundai Rotem Trains

These efforts are aimed at improving the quality of passenger transportation and increasing its volume.

The Arbitration Court Dismissed Pesa’s Multimillion-Euro Lawsuit Against Uraltransmash: What’s Next?

Active negotiations are ongoing with the South Korean government regarding the delivery of the trains, which could be a significant step in modernizing Ukraine’s railway infrastructure.

According to Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, head of Ukrzaliznytsia’s passenger operations, the first train is expected to be delivered within 18-24 months after the contract is signed.

All 20 trains are planned to be operational within the next three to four years.

This project will not only improve transportation accessibility but also provide transport for 5-6 million passengers annually, significantly enhancing the convenience and comfort of travel for citizens.

Each of the new trains will cost Ukraine approximately $16 million, with the total program cost amounting to around $400 million, including maintenance expenses.

These investments will allow Ukrzaliznytsia to significantly update its aging fleet.

It is worth noting that the average age of railcars currently stands at 31 years, and their number decreases by 5-7% annually.

This means that without additional purchases, the railway operator will be able to meet only one-third of the existing demand for passenger transportation by 2028.

In the context of previous purchases, it is important to note that Ukraine acquired its first 10 Hyundai Rotem interregional electric trains in time for Euro 2012.

These trains have proven effective in operation, and the new trains are intended to enhance this positive impact by providing passengers with more modern and comfortable travel conditions.

Despite the challenging economic and political situation, Ukrzaliznytsia continues to pursue ambitious plans to modernize its rolling stock.

Even during the war, one of the Hyundai Rotem trains was successfully repaired, demonstrating the company’s commitment to maintaining a high level of service.

The purchase of new trains will be an important step towards increasing the competitiveness of Ukraine’s railways and strengthening its position in the passenger transportation market.

This project will also make a significant contribution to improving the country’s overall transportation system.
