The largest Ukrainian railway operator, JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia,” has announced a large-scale investment of €215 million in the development of gas power plants, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This project aims to ensure the company’s energy self-sufficiency and generate electricity for internal needs and the market.

According to the Rail.insider publication, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to create a new company called “UZ Energo,” which will be responsible for the implementation of the project.
The first 10 MW units are planned to be launched in the coming months, allowing operation to start by early winter.
The company is negotiating with global generator manufacturers for the rapid delivery of the necessary equipment.
Gas piston units with capacities ranging from 1 to 10 MW will be installed at 20 different sites across Ukraine, where the necessary permits are currently being processed.
It is expected that up to half of the electricity produced will be used by Ukrzaliznytsia for its own needs, with the rest directed to the market.
Additionally, the provision of additional energy services is planned.
The project’s financing will be carried out through grants and international financial support, which will help reduce the project’s payback period to five years according to optimistic estimates.
Overall, investments are evaluated based on highly conservative calculations over a period of up to 10 years.
This step by Ukrzaliznytsia is being taken amid rapid changes in Ukraine’s energy sector, demonstrating its strategic focus on sustainability and its own energy independence.
