Ukraine and the EU: Attracting Investments for Transportation Connectivity Development
07.06.2023
Ukraine and the EU have signed an agreement on attracting investments for the development of transportation connectivity
According to the agreement, which was concluded on June 6 in Lviv, Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean pledged to promote the development of high-performance, sustainable, and efficiently interconnected Trans-European networks in the transport, energy, and digital sectors, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply, citing the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development and Infrastructure.
Ukraine has the opportunity to access EU funding to support infrastructure modernization projects. The overall budget of the Connecting Europe Facility program until 2027 is approximately 21 billion euros. The support for financing is provided on the principle that the applicant country covers half of the project’s cost, while the remaining funding is provided from the program’s budget.

The projects submitted under this program aim to optimize and modernize transportation flows, particularly at international road and rail border crossings.
The Lviv railway hub, thanks to the construction of the Eurocol corridor in the Lviv region, can become an important junction connecting four Trans-European transport routes: to Constanța (Romania), Kraków and Warsaw (Poland), Bratislava (Slovakia), and Budapest (Hungary).
