UAE–Oman Agreement Launches First Cross-Border Rail Link
25.10.2025
A historic agreement to build a freight rail connection spanning the UAE-Oman border between Abu Dhabi and the Omani state of Sohar has been formally signed by the UAE and Oman.
This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Rail Link Strengthens Gulf Logistics and Trade Corridors
The new corridor, operated by Noatum Logistics and Hafeet Rail, will transport up to 193,200 TEUs per year. Each train will carry 276 TEUs across seven weekly services, supporting major cargo categories like consumer goods, food products, and pharmaceuticals.

The project directly connects Abu Dhabi and Sohar, two leading logistics hubs in the Arabian Peninsula. It will reduce travel times, lower emissions, and promote a shift from road to rail freight. Because both nations prioritize sustainability, this rail link aligns with their economic diversification goals.
Rail Link Empowers Sustainable Economic Integration
According to the CEO of Noatum Logistics, Samir Chaturvedi, the initiative relates to the connection of “two of the region’s most strategic hubs.” This move aims to provide cost-effective solutions while promoting cleaner supply chains for the Gulf region.
Hafeet Rail CEO Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi added that the partnership reinforces regional infrastructure and enables efficient, reliable cross-border transport. The rail link also complements Noatum’s existing rail shuttle between Khalifa Port and Fujairah Terminals, launched in 2024.
Trains are fuel and emissions-efficient compared to truck transport; hence, they help organizations achieve sustainability goals while reducing costs. Therefore, the UAE-Oman corridor will establish a trade artery with high capacity that improves the sustainability of logistics and economic cooperation between the states.
