26.02.2025
Construction of a Hungarian port has begun in Trieste, set to become a key logistics hub for international transport. This project will expand trade opportunities and simplify the export of Hungarian goods. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Trieste as a Strategic Trade Hub
According to Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Economy, the port area will cover 50,000 square meters. Additionally, a logistics base will be established on land, spanning 30 hectares.

In the first phase of construction, a 250-meter quay wall will be built, along with 50,000 cubic meters of land reclamation. Later, the coastline will be extended by 400 meters, further improving infrastructure.
Hungary will gain 650 meters of Adriatic coastline and 30 hectares of land for further expansion. This will ensure independence from foreign ports and enhance the efficiency of transportation routes.
How Trieste Will Help Hungary Gain Maritime Access?
This project has been in development for over five years, after which Hungary signed a 60-year concession agreement. This decision will help the country establish its own maritime infrastructure despite its geographical distance from the coast.
Full operation of the port is planned for 2028, significantly accelerating export shipments. Hungary aims to strengthen its economic position and expand its influence in the international market.
