TransANT: a new generation of innovative freight wagons
18.06.2024
In Austria, the next-generation TransANT freight wagon body module was unveiled for transporting scrap metal, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

In early June, the Austrian steel company Voestalpine received the first two prototypes of the new generation TransANT innovative freight wagons designed for transporting scrap metal.
These wagons are aimed at improving the efficiency and safety of transporting metal waste at the company’s industrial facilities.

Over the coming months, the prototypes will undergo trial operation at Voestalpine’s facilities before commencing regular service on the main railway networks of Austria and Germany.
One of the main advantages of the new TransANT innovative freight wagons is their removable design, allowing quick and easy replacement of body parts on a standardized platform.
The platform length can vary from 33 to 70 feet, providing flexibility based on transport needs.
Furthermore, the use of special steel increases the wagons’ payload capacity by 30% compared to similar wagons from other manufacturers.
This significant improvement allows for transporting more scrap metal per trip, reducing transportation costs and enhancing overall logistics efficiency.
Production of TransANT wagons began in Austria in 2018 and has since gained recognition in the railway transport market for their innovation and reliability.
In 2023, production of TransANT wagons was also launched at the “Dneprovagonmash” plant, part of the Ukrainian group “TAS” holding a controlling stake.
This collaboration significantly expanded production capacities to meet growing demand for TransANT wagons both within Europe and beyond.
Importantly, the TransANT project is a result of collaboration between Voestalpine, the Austrian freight carrier RCG, and the “TAS” group.
This partnership combines expertise and resources from various industries to create high-quality and efficient freight transport solutions.
The new generation of TransANT innovative freight wagons represents another step towards modernizing and optimizing railway transport, contributing to reduced environmental impact and improved economic efficiency.
The implementation of TransANT wagons for scrap metal transport marks a significant advancement in railway transportation development.
This solution not only enhances transport efficiency and safety but also promotes sustainable industrial development by reducing environmental impact and optimizing logistics processes.
