Trams ForCity Smart 45T: New Opportunities for the City

In July 2024, the operator ordered 20 more trams for $60 million. Thus, Brno’s tram fleet modernization gains momentum with these contracts.

Both agreements build on a framework deal signed with Škoda Group in February 2021. It included an order for five trams and an option for 35 more.

The European Union actively funds the purchase of these new trams. The first five modern units already serve passengers on Brno’s Line 8.

Modern trams actively replace outdated KT8D5 and T6A5 models from Tatra. These three-section, low-floor trams with air conditioning enhance travel comfort for residents.

Each tram, 31 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, holds up to 233 passengers. Of these, 64 can sit, while others use standing or special zones.

The trams feature comfortable seats, info displays, and USB ports for charging devices. They also offer spaces for bikes, strollers, and people with disabilities.

Trams ForCity Smart 45T: Timeline and Plans

DPMB will complete testing the first tram by mid-April 2025. After that, it will start carrying passengers, improving the city’s transport network.

Full deployment of all 40 trams is scheduled for the end of 2026. This will allow Brno to refresh its transport and elevate service quality.

The tram network modernization project strongly supports eco-friendliness and transport comfort. New units from Škoda Group ensure reliable and pleasant trips for residents.

Thanks to these changes, Brno solidifies its status as a modern European city. And EU support makes this project a key step in regional infrastructure growth.
