Electric Locomotives

These locomotives are set to serve inter-city passenger and freight trains.

Back in October 2019, TRA awarded a substantial NT$11 billion contract to Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions for the supply of these 1,067 mm gauge six-axle 25 kV 60 Hz electric locomotives.

Production is currently underway at Toshiba’s Fuchu plant in Japan.

These locomotives, with a top speed of 140 km/h, are engineered to withstand challenging conditions such as typhoon-force winds, the humid rainy season, and temperatures exceeding 40°C.

Notable features include 4G communication equipment for automated fault diagnostics and Saft backup batteries equipped with nickel-based MRX cells, offering immunity to the ‘sudden death’ issues sometimes seen in lead-acid batteries.
