The proposed name change reflects Toronto Metropolitan University’s growing presence in the area and its integration with transit infrastructure. The Toronto Transit Commission suggests the update would match other stations like Museum, Queen’s Park, and Osgoode.

TMU has offered to cover all costs of the renaming. This would reduce the financial burden on the Toronto Transit Commission and build a long-term partnership to support transit communications.
Officials highlight that this is a time-sensitive opportunity. They aim to coordinate the renaming with upcoming changes to Line 6 Finch West LRT’s customer information system.
Incorporating the name change into existing station renovations at Dundas could streamline the process. Delaying the decision may increase project costs over time.
Toronto Transit Commission Aligns Naming with City Values
The station renaming is part of a broader effort to modernize public assets. In 2023, Toronto renamed Yonge-Dundas Square to Sankofa Square, acknowledging historical injustices linked to Henry Dundas.
Other changes include renaming the Jane/Dundas Library to the Daniel G. Hill Branch. Dundas West Station is also being considered for a future renaming under the city’s updated naming framework.
Community and Transit Synergy at the Forefront
The Toronto Transit Commission believes aligning station names with major institutions improves clarity for riders. It also reinforces the role of public transit in reflecting city identity.
With TMU’s financial support and the city’s broader naming initiative, the renaming of Dundas Station could be implemented efficiently and symbolically. It would mark another step in connecting Toronto’s transit system with community values.
