New Fleet to Replace Aging Trains and Cut Energy Use by 40%

By 2027, Tokyu plans to fully modernize the line by deploying a total of 18 Series 6050 trains. These new units will replace the aging Series 9000 and 9020 models, originally built in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Thanks to the use of Mitsubishi Electric’s silicon carbide (SiC) traction inverters, the trains will consume approximately 40% less energy and generate 10% less noise than their predecessors.

Advanced Features and a Focus on Passenger Comfort

Each train consists of five stainless steel cars, including two motorized cars with a combined output of 1680 kW, enabling top speeds of up to 120 km/h. The total passenger capacity is 751, including 240 seats. Dedicated spaces for wheelchair users are also provided, enhancing accessibility for all travelers.

With the introduction of the Series 6050, Tokyu is making a decisive move toward modern, sustainable suburban transportation—balancing advanced engineering with passenger convenience and environmental responsibility.
