JR Tokai launched a probe and pinpointed a fallen steel plate in the Sakanosaka Tunnel. This tunnel links Toyohashi and Mikawa-Anjo stations, where the accident likely began.

The steel plate spans 30 centimeters long, 40-60 centimeters wide, and 3 millimeters thick. Weighing roughly 4 kilograms, it shielded signal and communication cables.
