Titagarh Rail to deliver rolling stock and systems for Line 5

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), an India-based manufacturer, penned a deal worth $282 million with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The deal entails designing, manufacturing, supplying, and commissioning 132-driverless metro cars for the Mumbai Metro Line-5 project.

It also comprises signaling systems for 24.9km of railway, telecommunication equipment for 16 stations, and platform screen doors that enhance passenger safety. Additionally, TRSL will offer comprehensive maintenance services for a period of five years for functionality and efficiency of operation.

Titagarh Rail manufactures metro cars in Uttarpara

Rolling stock on the new Line 5 will be manufactured at TRSL Passenger Rail Systems, located at Uttarpara, near Kolkata. It is a one-stop production facility that undertakes all activities, right from assembling car bodies to testing the manufactured train sets.

Earlier, Titagarh Rail Systems had received a contract of $284 million from MMRDA, this time in March 2025, for producing and supplying 18 six-car driverless trains for Mumbai Metro Line-6, making this its project as well, as it is currently engaged in another big project as well, increasing the metro system of this city.
