Titagarh Rail strengthens India presence before global push
16.08.2025
Titagarh Rail is strengthening its foundation in India by doubling its plant size, expanding testing capacity, and diversifying into shipbuilding before pursuing global ambitions in the railway and transportation sector. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Titagarh Rail focuses on domestic growth
Titagarh Rail has prioritized India’s transformation over global expansion, even though its rolling stock meets advanced European standards. Deputy Managing Director Pritish Chowdhary explained that India’s scale and opportunities are unmatched, so the company will build resilience at home first.

The Indian railway sector is rapidly modernizing through high-speed corridors, metro systems, and the Make-in-India initiative. Because of this demand, Titagarh Rail expanded its flagship Uttarpara facility in West Bengal. The plant grew from 34 acres to more than 74 acres, integrating a new 1.5-km test track to validate 16-coach Vande Bharat formations without external support.
Titagarh Rail diversifies into shipbuilding
Beyond railways, the company is expanding into shipbuilding. Titagarh Rail acquired land in Falta, West Bengal, to overcome size restrictions of its current shipyard. This move enables larger vessels, building on its earlier success with coastal research vessels showcased during a presidential fleet review.
The company also invests in sustainability. Its Uttarpara facility uses solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and automation tools to reduce energy consumption. Because India’s railway network is now 99 percent electrified, every coach aligns with the country’s climate goals and lowers emissions.
Advanced robotics from Japan and Korea also play a role. They enhance efficiency, reduce power use, and increase output. And efficiency extends to TRSL’s products, which deliver long-term savings for customers.
As of August 13, 2025, the company’s confirmed order book included 1,838 coaches, covering metro and Vande Bharat units. Analysts note that India’s continuing railway modernization will determine how effectively Titagarh Rail converts domestic dominance into lasting global influence.
