The UK Expands Use of Renewable Fuel HVO100
22.06.2024
The UK is expanding the use of renewable fuel HVO100 in rail freight transportation, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Ocean Network Express (ONE) UK, in collaboration with Freightliner, announced the continued use of this innovative fuel following a successful six-month pilot project.
HVO100, derived from vegetable oils and food industry waste, is fully renewable and can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%.
ONE UK reported that during the pilot project, CO2 emissions were reduced by 488 tons, demonstrating a significant environmental contribution.
This step is also part of ONE’s strategy to create a “green railway,” offering customers the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint through emissions certification.
Clive Sleeford of Freightliner expressed satisfaction with ONE’s choice of HVO for their freight transportation, emphasizing that this approach helps the company reduce its environmental impact.
The partnership between ONE and Freightliner, initiated in 2018 and solidified with a new five-year contract, demonstrates a shared commitment to sustainable development and the pursuit of eco-friendly solutions in logistics.
This initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability but also confirms the UK’s leadership in implementing innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
