The system contract for the railway section Devača – Koper has been signed

Slovenian state project company 2TDK has signed a contract worth 203.8 million euros with the consortium SŽ – Železniško gradbeno podjetje, Kolektor IGIN, GH Holding, and YM Construction for the construction of the railway project Devača – Koper, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
This is the final main contract (lot 3) for the construction of the second track between Devača and the port of Koper, including the laying of railway tracks and the installation of systems for signaling, telecommunications, video, and security, electrification, and tunnel equipment.
The consortium will carry out the work simultaneously with the main construction work, which is planned to be completed by December 2025.

2TDK expects that the testing of the entire new line will commence in 2026.
The entire project is divided into three packages, including the main construction works on the Devača – Črni Kal section with tunnels T1 and T2, as well as the Kal – Koper section with tunnels T3 – T8 (six tunnels), and the construction of viaducts Gabrovica and Vinjan, totaling 1.3 km in length.
The contract for the railway section Devača – Koper is the third phase of the project.
Contracts for the construction of two sections have been signed with the consortium Kolektor CPG (Slovenia), Yapi Merkezi Insaat, and Ozaltin Insaat, with a total value of 628.3 million euros.
Out of the total length of the new second track, which is 27.1 km long, 20.5 km (75%) is built in tunnels with a combined length of 37 km.
In August 2023, 2TDK announced that the contractor had excavated 26 km of tunnels.
The cost of construction works is 811 million euros, and the entire project is estimated at 1.1 billion euros.
In July, the European Investment Bank approved a loan of 250 million euros, the signing of which is expected by the end of this year.
Upon completion of the construction of the second track and the modernization of the existing line, railway traffic will increase by 12 trains from 90 to 102 trains per day, and the capacity will increase from 14 to 17.7 million tons per year.
According to the company’s forecasts, there will be 212 trains per day on the existing and new second tracks, with a capacity of 36.9 million tons per year.
