Last year over 5.3 million passengers chose double-decker trains formed by JSC FPC (a subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways) for their journeys (-12% by 2019). In the total volume of traffic, the share of passengers using such trains amounted to 9.1% (in 2019 — 5.9%), reports railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the Russian Railways website.

The share of passenger traffic in double-deckers has increased in the Russian Federation

The most popular directions in the past year were Moscow – Bryansk (18.5% of the total volume of traffic by double-deck trains), Moscow – Voronezh (15.4%) and Moscow – St. Petersburg (10.6%).

In 2020, the Russian Railways holding increased the route network of double-deck trains, despite the difficult epidemic situation. New trains began to run between Murmansk and St. Petersburg and between Moscow and Smolensk.

In total, 20 pairs of double-deck trains formed by JSC FPK run on 14 routes on Russian railways. The company’s fleet includes 587 modern double-deck cars.

The cars are equipped with microclimate control systems, environmentally friendly toilet facilities, and security control systems. In particular, access to the compartment is based on individual magnetic cards.
