The Albanian National Railway HSH has selected the consortium of ILF Consulting Engineers Austria and Abkons to conduct a 14-month technical and economic feasibility study for the construction of a railway connection with Kosovo, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The railway research project

Two options will be considered for the Albanian part of the route: a branch from the existing Durres-Shkoder line and crossing the border near Morine.

The first option entails a 137 km route from Mjede, with 107 km in Albania and 29.5 km of tunnels.

The second option is a 125 km route, including 108 km in Albania, passing through Milot.

Construction is expected to commence in 2025 with financial support from both governments.
