The Croatian railway has announced the reopening of a previously abandoned railway line between Sisak-Kapraga and Petrinja

The single-track route, spanning 10.1 kilometers, was part of the Sisak-Kapraga – Karlovac line, which closed during the hostilities of 1991-1995, according to the railway portal Railway Supply, citing Railway Gazette.

Petrinja and the Banovina region suffered significant damage from an earthquake in December 2020, and as part of the reconstruction process, the reopening of the railway has been planned.

Minister of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure, Oleg Butković, explained that the reopening will be financed through a 1 billion euro loan, which will be used to support the modernization of local railways that are not eligible for EU funding.
