The first procurement of Vande Metro trains has been announced in India

Suburban carrier Mumbai MRVC has announced a tender for the supply of 238 twelve-car electric trains worth INR 446.4 billion ($5.4 billion), as reported by the railway journal Railway Supply.
This modification of Vande Bharat trains will feature specific equipment, an operational speed of 130 km/h, and an expanded aisle between seats to increase the capacity of each coach to 250-300 passengers.

The competition also includes provisions for technical maintenance for 35 years and the construction of depots in Vangaon and Bhivpuri. The winner will be given 2 years to create a prototype, and then for the next 5 years, they must deliver 50 trains annually.
In March, the CEO of Indian Railways’ Integral Coach Factory (ICF), B.G. Malya, announced the completion of the technical requirements development for Vande Metro trains. The ICF itself received the order for manufacturing the Vande Metro prototype back in January.
