11.10.2023
More units will come into operation as driver training progresses, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.
These UK-manufactured trains aim to enhance capacity and the customer experience along Trenitalia’s London to South East Essex route.
Alstom’s Performance Highlights
The new five-carriage 720 units can operate individually or be linked to create ten-carriage trains.
With increased length compared to their predecessors, they offer more seating, power and USB outlets at every seat, improved Wi-Fi, and air conditioning.
These trains feature open gangways to facilitate passenger movement between carriages, improved accessibility features, on-board toilets, and dedicated bicycle spaces.
To mark the introduction of this new fleet, project participants gathered at London Fenchurch Street station on September 27th to witness the first Class 720 train arriving.
