The EU is investing in the development of Ukraine’s railway infrastructure. The funding is provided through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) financial instrument for the development of border crossings with Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary, according to the Railway Supply journal citing Rail.insider.
It is planned that the funds will be directed towards the development of border crossings with the Republic of Poland: Yagodin-Dorohusk and Mostyska II-Medica.

There will also be modernization of the Chop-Chierna crossing over the Tisza/Zahony River, connecting Ukraine with the Slovak Republic and Hungary. The construction of an intermodal terminal and related infrastructure at the Chop station is planned.
In addition, reconstruction of the 1435 mm gauge railway tracks will be carried out at the Vadul-Siret and Hlyboka-Bukovynska stations as part of joint projects with the Romanian side. It should be noted that on June 6, 2023, during a visit to Lviv, Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean signed an Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on participation in the EU program.
It is worth noting that the European Commission has selected 107 transport infrastructure projects that will receive over 6.2 billion euros in grants from the EU instrument for investment in transport infrastructure.

Among them are projects that contribute to the development of “paths of solidarity” between Ukraine and the EU, created to support Ukrainian exports and imports. It is noted that the European Commission has made changes to the indicative maps of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), including Ukrainian logistic routes in July 2022.
According to the Indicative Investment Plan of the European Commission for the development of TEN-T corridors, projects with a total value of 4.45 billion euros are planned to be implemented in Ukraine by 2030, which is the highest among all Eastern Partnership countries of the EU.
As previously reported, the European Commission and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have allocated 1 billion euros for the development of “paths of solidarity” with Ukraine.
