Hungary will receive the corresponding permission as an exception from the 11th package of EU sanctions against Russia, which was adopted this week, according to Bloomberg.
This permission will allow the import of metro trains, signaling devices, protective glass, valves, and other components, as well as the provision of services for their maintenance.
Talgo and Renfe have reached a new agreement on the delivery of Avril trains
According to the information, from 2015 to 2018, “Metrowagonmash” (part of TMH) carried out major repairs and modernization of 37 trains manufactured in the 1970s-1980s for the third line of Hungary’s capital metro. Bloomberg notes that a quarter of them are currently out of service.
Earlier, TMH sold its business in Hungary, including the facility in Dunakeszi, but continues to fulfill a contract to supply 1,350 passenger cars to Egypt and provide maintenance and modernization services for over 400 passenger cars for the MAV-Start carrier, according to the Railway Supply portal, citing the ROLLINGSTOCK.
As reported in May, the managing director of the plant, István Schwarz, announced plans to stop purchasing components from Russia after November.
