This cargo was delivered by the operator GB Railfreight, which announced this significant event in the energy industry.

Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station, opened in 1967, is owned by the German energy company Uniper.

For decades, it played a key role in providing electricity to hundreds of thousands of households.

As a mark of respect for the importance of this event, the Class 66 locomotive that delivered the last coal train was named Ratcliffe Power Station.

The last shipment of coal, weighing 1,650 tons, arrived from the port of Immingham. This amount of coal is sufficient to generate electricity capable of powering about 500,000 households for eight hours.

Over the years of the power station’s operation, more than 3,600 trains delivered over 6 million tons of coal to it.
