The discussion of supplying Japanese Shinkansen trains to the United States for the Texas HSR project is gaining attention
11.04.2024
The meeting between Joe Biden and Fumio Kishida could be a significant event for the development of the high-speed rail (HSR) in Texas, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
The discussion on the supply of Japanese Shinkansen trains and the prospects of cooperation between the U.S. and Japan in this crucial project have attracted public and investor attention.

Although the Texas HSR project does not yet have official status, collaboration with giants like Central Japan Railway and Hitachi signals promising prospects for its further development.
However, political criticism from the opposition in the Republican Party, expressing doubts about the efficiency and necessity of using government funds for railway infrastructure, continues to slow down the project’s progress.
The planned high-speed railway line between Houston and Dallas is a large-scale project spanning approximately 390 km with an expected travel time of about 90 minutes.
This proposal will be significant for both passengers and business development in both cities.
Financial support from Japan, including a $300 million loan from the Japan Bank for International Corporation for project development and Shinkansen technology acquisition, as well as an additional $500,000 grant from the U.S. Federal Government for HSR design, are important incentives for its implementation.
Interest in developing high-speed rail systems in the U.S. continues to grow.
A bill has been introduced in the U.S. Congress to invest $205 billion in a high-speed rail network over five years, amounting to $41 billion annually.
Currently, seven HSR projects in the U.S. are receiving government funding, indicating the country’s commitment to modernizing transportation infrastructure and stimulating economic growth through railway transport development.
Thus, the Biden-Kishida meeting reflects not only interest in a specific project in Texas but also broader trends in the development of high-speed rail systems in the U.S. and globally.
