The Dhaka-Bhanga railway line through the Padma Bridge is opening

The 82-kilometer line from Dhaka to Bhanga, including the 6.2 km-long Padma Bridge, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on October 10, ahead of the commencement of commercial operations on November 1, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
This single-track, 1,676 mm gauge line is designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

Ultimately, it will be a part of the 169-kilometer Padma Railway Corridor between Dhaka and Jessore, with the remaining 87 km from Bhanga to Jessore expected to be completed in 2024.
The primary contractors are the China Railway Engineering Corp and its 12 subsidiary companies. CRRC Tangshan has been contracted to supply 100 carriages for this route.
The project’s cost of 392 billion taka is financed through a credit of 210 billion taka from the China Exim Bank and the government of Bangladesh.
