The Development of Poland’s High-Speed Railway Infrastructure
16.10.2024
The Central Communication Port (CPK) is a strategic infrastructure project aimed at developing Poland’s transport hub. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

This project will integrate air, rail, and road transport, improving the country’s connectivity. The plan includes building a new international airport between Warsaw and Łódź, alongside a high-speed railway. This network will connect major cities in Poland, boosting travel efficiency and convenience.
SafeRail Testing Begins to Improve Railroad Safety and Speed
Recently, the European Commission allocated 162 million PLN (€37.74 million) to Poland’s CPK company. The funding is for designing a 155-kilometer high-speed railway section between Sieradz and Poznań.
The Role of the High-Speed Railway in Poland’s Transport Development
This section is a vital part of the Y-shaped line linking Warsaw, Łódź, Poznań, and Wrocław. It is also part of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The design phase is expected to be completed by February 2027.
Investments and Timeline for the High-Speed Railway Project
The total project cost for the Sieradz–Poznań section is 191 million PLN (€). The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) will cover 85% of the funding. This high-speed railway represents a significant step forward in Poland’s transportation infrastructure.
Additionally, the CPK project includes constructing a 4.6-kilometer tunnel in Łódź, for which a tender was announced in August 2024. The first section of the railway connecting Warsaw, the central CPK hub, and Łódź is expected to be operational by 2032. This date aligns with the opening of the new airport. The full completion of the Y-shaped railway line is expected by 2035.
The high-speed railway is also part of the “Poland in 100 Minutes” initiative. This project aims to reduce travel time between the capital and major cities to within 100 minutes. High-speed trains will operate at speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour, significantly improving regional connectivity and accessibility.
The completion of the high-speed railway will emphasize the importance of high-speed rail development in Europe. It will also strengthen Poland’s role in the European transportation system.
