CRRC’s European subsidiary has signed a contract with the leasing company Railpool for the delivery of 45 hybrid locomotives in 2026-2027, with an option for an additional 142 units, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.

The order includes two locomotive models from the Modula platform: the BDD with a power unit of 1 MW in the form of an accumulator and two diesel engines, as well as the EDD with 2 MW power, drawing power from both AC and DC overhead lines, and two diesel engines.

These locomotives will be certified for operation in Germany and the Netherlands.

Vossloh RS is also competing for a significant order in Austria, where the company, along with Stadler, is participating in a tender by the national carrier OBB for the supply of up to 200 shunting locomotives with a “last mile” function.

CRRC acquired Vossloh RS in 2020.

At the Innotrans 2022 exhibition, Vossloh RS showcased its range of Modula hybrid locomotives.

In May, the company also announced the development of a hydrogen-powered locomotive.
