Thales has won a contract to supply the train control system for the Montreal metro
20.03.2024
The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has awarded Thales a contract to supply the CBTC train control system for the Montreal Metro’s Blue Line, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Under the contract, Thales will design, manufacture, install, and test the train control signaling system based on SelTrac™ communication and provide maintenance services for 5 years.
Siemens has delivered the 137th ICE 4 train for Deutsche Bahn
Thales’s SelTrac™ technology will replace the existing system on the Blue Line and expand it along a new 6 km extended section.
SelTrac™ by Thales will be the first CBTC system deployed in the Montreal Metro network.
The contract also includes a 5-year maintenance agreement, which will also be handled by Thales.
CBTC is a leading technology for metro systems worldwide, used by the majority of metro operators globally, and will support the modernization of the Montreal Metro with state-of-the-art technology.
The Montreal Metro’s Blue Line is expanding eastward from Saint-Michel to Anjou Station, adding 6 km of track and 5 new stations.
Upon completion of the Blue Line extension, it will consist of 17 stations spanning 19 km, providing STM customers with more modern, efficient, and reliable service.
Thales is familiar with the STM network, its operations, and technologies, having provided the signaling system throughout the network over the past six years.
Thales will leverage this knowledge and partnership to deliver the Blue Line project.
The SelTrac™ solution to be installed in Montreal is used in the largest and busiest networks worldwide.
