Tesmec Rail has supplied Italy’s infrastructure operator RFI with a new Tipo 4 diagnostic complex designed to inspect railway infrastructure and monitor the technical condition of tracks.

Tesmec Rail advances infrastructure diagnostic technologies

The implementation of Tipo 4 occurs through a tender that Tesmec Rail won in 2022. The contract has the objective of manufacturing 44 units of track equipment. The system has the capacity to conduct diagnostic tests of the rail infrastructure at a speed of 0 to 140km/h.

It can inspect mainlines, industrial tracks, as well as marshalling yards. The system is made to work from both 3 kV DC overhead power and from a diesel engine.

Tesmec Rail enhances track and catenary monitoring

The Tipo 4 model is equipped with 15 diagnostic systems and advanced sensors that measure track geometry, rail wear, overhead line condition, and wheel-to-rail interaction.

High resolution cameras continuously track the rail line and the overhead wire. Additional equipment evaluates the quality of telecommunications signals and signaling system functions. In this way, the company can identify a probable fault and ensure continuity of infrastructure functionality.

Hence, the addition of the Tipo 4 complex enhances Tesmec Rail’s position in intelligent diagnostics and contributes to the modernization of Italy’s rail system.
