Additionally, they explored the terminal’s operations and cutting-edge equipment. They were introduced to the engine fleet, crane systems, and the 3D Digital Twin technology.
Organizers believe the innovative solutions sparked interest among the youth. Students gained deeper insights into the opportunities and challenges of a logistics career.
East-West Gate – Europe’s Largest Terminal
Located in Fényeslitke, the East-West Gate is Europe’s largest intermodal terminal. It sits at the intersection of Hungarian and Ukrainian railway networks.
The company offers transloading services for grain, edible oil, and containers. Goods are transferred between railway cars and road transport.
East-West Gate employs innovative technologies to enhance logistics efficiency. All processes comply with European environmental standards and EU directives.
Equipment and Capabilities of East-West Gate
The terminal handles trains up to 740 meters long, meeting EU standards. Operations are supported by three rail cranes with a 45-ton capacity.
An RTG crane for containers and a semi-trailer transloading system are also utilized. A covered transloading area enables handling of grain and oil.
East-West Gate can service up to four trains simultaneously. All cranes are remotely operated, with oversight provided by the 3D Digital Twin system.
Modern Technology and Cargo Monitoring
The terminal features digital cargo and vehicle tracking systems. OCR gates and cameras monitor the movement of containers, wagons, and semi-trailers.
All documentation is managed electronically, streamlining the processing time. Certified railway and road scales ensure precise measurements.
Customs and Logistics Services
The terminal operates its own customs agency, offering a full range of services. Clients can access temporary storage and warehousing options.
The terminal’s railway company provides cargo transportation services. Locomotives and wagons are available for efficient deliveries.
Services of the East-West Gate Intermodal Terminal
East-West Gate transloads containers between various transport modes. The terminal’s annual capacity reaches 1 million TEU.
Grain and edible oil transloading capacity is up to 2 million tons. Semi-trailers are handled using cranes or specialized equipment.
The terminal also offers storage and transport of hazardous goods. Containers undergo inspection, repair, and cleaning on-site.
Environmental Mission of East-West Gate
East-West Gate shifts freight transport to rail, reducing emissions. This helps protect the environment and lower the carbon footprint.
