The company is actively expanding operations into Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the Netherlands, collaborating with rail operators such as Irish Rail and Translink.
Innovative Wearable Devices Enhancing Worker Safety
Tended’s core product is a wearable device that utilizes rail-specific geospatial data to alert trackside workers when they exit designated safe zones. The technology, already adopted by companies including Network Rail and Siemens Mobility, aims to prevent trackside injuries and fatalities.
Alerts are triggered in under 0.25 seconds, providing workers with critical time to avoid hazards. Additionally, the solution offers asset tracking and data insights for worksite safety management.
Track safety remains a concern across the UK rail network, with the Rail Safety and Standards Board recording 22 near misses in 2023–24. Tended’s approach seeks to replace traditional, paper-based safety methods with scalable digital solutions.
CEO and founder Leo Scott Smith emphasized the company’s mission to eliminate preventable accidents. “With support from industry-leading investors, we’re now positioned to bring our technology to new sectors and geographies.
This investment strengthens our ability to deliver meaningful change across the rail industry and beyond,” he said.
The investment also brings strategic expertise to Tended’s leadership, with Praetura partner Andy Barrow and Blackfinch Ventures’ Ijaz Khan joining the board.
Barrow praised Tended’s rapid impact on rail safety and its potential to secure high-profile contracts worldwide. Khan noted the company’s evolution within the safety tech space, affirming Blackfinch’s commitment to supporting its long-term vision and technological advancement.
