Alstom, Ericsson, NetWorks!, and Instytut Kolejnictwa have officially confirmed their collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding to implement and test the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) in the Polish market, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

ORLEN Acquires Hydrogen-Powered Locomotive from PESA

Its main goal is to increase the capacity of existing railway networks and optimize their operational costs.

The system was developed by the International Union of Railways (UIC) in collaboration with key representatives from the railway sector, marking a significant step toward the full digitization of rail transport.

As part of this new collaboration, the signatories of the memorandum will develop joint research projects, test requirements and solutions in real railway conditions, on a full-scale track, and create and develop training models and certification for the FRMCS System.

According to the terms of the memorandum:

  • Alstom will provide a modern train control subsystem.
  • Ericsson will provide the network radio telecommunication solution for the pilot implementation of FRMCS technology.
  • NetWorks! will offer expertise in telecommunication solutions in the railway transport sector and the construction and maintenance of the FRMCS test network.
  • Instytut Kolejnictwa will provide the necessary research infrastructure for the testing of the FRMCS system.

Critical networks are becoming increasingly important in all industries, particularly in the railway sector, where they ensure the expected level of safety, reliability, and performance.
