Tatravagónka: A Breakthrough in European Rail Transport with a New Semi-Trailer Platform
12.07.2024
The Slovak wagon manufacturing plant Tatravagónka has unveiled an innovative railway platform for semi-trailers, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This development is the first of its kind in Europe and has already attracted the attention of major transport companies due to its unique technical characteristics.
Britain unites against rail industry abuse
The new six-axle articulated wagon, designated as Sdggmrss, is specifically designed for transporting containers and semi-trailers.
The main feature of this platform is its built-in removable pallets, which simplify the loading and unloading process.
Thanks to this technology, reminiscent of the CargoBeamer system, the need for special cranes is eliminated, significantly easing the logistics process and reducing the cost of storing pallets in logistics centers.
These pallets allow for loading up to two semi-trailers on one wagon, each weighing up to 40 tons.
The versatility of the Sdggmrss also lies in its ability to operate on rail networks with track gauges of 1435 mm and 1668 mm, making this platform ideal for use in countries like Spain and Portugal.
The wagon and pallet have already received certification for operation within the European Union.
The Swiss multimodal transport company MFD Rail has become the first customer for Tatravagónka’s new platform.
The introduction of these wagons into operation is planned for late 2024 – early 2025, demonstrating a high level of trust in the innovations and quality of the Slovak manufacturer’s products.

This news marks an important step in the development of rail transport, offering more efficient and cost-effective logistics solutions.
The Sdggmrss platform promises not only to simplify transport processes but also to open up new opportunities for multimodal transport companies worldwide.
Thus, Tatravagónka’s innovations continue to make a significant contribution to the development of the transport industry, offering modern and reliable solutions for global logistics chains.
