Tainan advances monorail expansion with Blue and Green Lines
The Blue Line project is currently the most advanced. Construction on its first 8.4 km phase will begin next year, adding 10 elevated stations across two branches in northern and eastern districts.
This route will start at Daqiao station, curve through the Tainan Municipal Cultural Centre, and end at the Rende Transfer Station, which will house a new maintenance facility.
The Ministry of Transportation & Communications approved the Blue Line in March 2024. City officials plan to complete the line by 2031 to reduce traffic and support growing demand for public transport.
Consultants and future strategy for Tainan monorail network
Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp (KRTC), the company operating Kaohsiung’s metro, is consulting on the Blue Line and other future Tainan rail projects, including the Red and Dark Green Lines.
By integrating transport services across cities, Tainan aims to promote sustainable mobility, reduce congestion, and boost regional economic growth in southern Taiwan.
