Switzerland and Germany electrify a railway line to enhance transport between their border regions. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The two countries agreed to modernize the Hochrheinbahn route to strengthen their transport connectivity.

Electrifying the railway line will improve travel between Basel, Schaffhausen, and St. Gallen. This project also aims to drive economic growth and provide more convenience for passengers.
Switzerland is investing CHF 50 million to support the electrification of the Hochrheinbahn railway. The total project budget is CHF 430 million. The 75-km line stretches from Basel to Erzingen in Germany.
Modernization work will include various upgrades to improve infrastructure and enhance sustainability
Plans involve laying new cables, extending platforms, and increasing their height to 55 cm. The project will also install lighting masts, noise barriers, and switch heating systems.
SBB Deutschland plans to introduce new trains on the route by 2027. Travelers will benefit from reduced travel times, completing the Basel to St. Gallen journey in 2 hours 20 minutes.
