Sweco Wins Contract to Expand Railway Line
11.07.2024
Sweco, a leading consulting company in engineering and design, has received a significant contract from the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket, to expand the railway line between Uppsala and Stockholm, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract, worth 400 million Swedish kronor, involves the development of the East Coast Line project, including the construction of new railway tracks, sidings, and stations.
The project, scheduled from 2024 to 2035, is expected to improve passenger and freight transportation infrastructure in the region.
Plans include the construction of a 23-kilometer double-track mainline connecting Uppsala and Stockholm, which will significantly increase capacity and punctuality of railway services in one of Sweden’s busiest routes.
The expansion also involves the construction of two new transportation hubs and improvements to the infrastructure of existing stations.
The goal of the “Four Tracks of Uppsala” project is to meet the growing demand for sustainable transport solutions in the region, supporting both suburban and intercity travel.
The line expansion also aims to improve conditions for freight transportation, playing an important role in the region’s economic development.
Construction is planned to start on the northern section in 2026 and on the southern section in 2028, allowing for gradual improvements and minimizing the impact on current traffic flow.
All this makes the project a key element of Sweden’s infrastructure strategy aimed at supporting sustainable development and enhancing the mobility of important regional centers.
