In the modern world, where reliability and safety play a crucial role, the adoption of innovative technologies becomes a necessity, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

the rechargeable batteries for use in railway tunnels

One such technical solution is batteries used as backup power sources.

Kazakhstan: Construction of a railway bypassing Almaty

Recently, the French company Saft, a part of the TotalEnergies corporation, announced the supply of over 30 blocks of ReGenPro rechargeable batteries to the Indian company Autometers Alliance for use in the tunnels on the Udhampur-Baramulla line.

This railway line, laid in the mountainous and seismically active zone of the Kashmir valley, represents a technical marvel but also a challenge for engineers and developers.

Stretching over 43 kilometers, including 11 tunnels and 16 bridges, this route places high demands on communication systems, lighting, and fire alarms.

Ensuring continuous power supply is particularly important in conditions where temperatures can drop to -20°C.

The choice of nickel-cadmium batteries for this project is justified by their reliability and ability to operate at low temperatures.

Ease of maintenance and long service life make them the optimal choice for such critical systems.

Additionally, Saft has developed reinforced racks for battery mounting capable of withstanding the seismic loads typical of this region.

This project underscores the importance of innovation in ensuring the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Saft and Autometers Alliance, residents of the region will have a reliable and safe railway infrastructure that meets the highest quality standards.
