Subway Upgrades Cause G Train Suspensions This Summer
28.06.2025
This summer, the MTA will temporarily suspend G train service between Queens and Brooklyn to support major subway signal upgrades and improve service reliability across the line. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Signal Modernization Disrupts Subway Service on G Line
Beginning July 14, the MTA will pause G train operations between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues on select nights and weekends. Free shuttle buses will connect closed stations during the disruptions.

The temporary closures support the installation of Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC), which replaces outdated signals from the 1930s. The G line will become the third subway route with full CBTC functionality after the L and No. 7 lines.
Subway Shutdowns Scheduled Through Mid-August
Overnight suspensions from 9:45 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. will occur:
• July 14–18
• July 24–25
• August 4–8
• August 11–15
Weekend closures from Friday 9:45 p.m. to Monday 5:00 a.m. are scheduled for:
• July 25–28
• August 1–4
• August 8–11
• August 15–18
While riders may face temporary inconvenience, officials say these upgrades will deliver long-term benefits, including shorter wait times and more reliable subway service. The MTA encourages travelers to use the MYmta app or visit mta.info for real-time information and travel alternatives.
