The project covers an 8.4-kilometer stretch between Pancorbo and Ameyugo.

Engineering challenges are substantial, as 77% of the route includes tunnels and bridges.

In Pancorbo, workers will excavate a 4 km tunnel, followed by a 1.1 km viaduct crossing two highways and a stream.

The viaduct design features two V-shaped piers on either side of the main span.

The plan also includes two additional tunnels (611 m and 524 m) and two more viaducts.

To support operations, a single-track access route will be built near Miranda de Ebro.

This will streamline logistics throughout the construction phase.

Burgos–Vitoria HSR strengthens Spain–Europe rail links

The Burgos–Vitoria HSR will link Spain’s national AVE network with the Basque Country’s Basque Y corridor.

Spain’s high-speed network already spans over 4,000 km, and this line will extend it further toward the French border.

This route will become part of the Atlantic Corridor in the TEN-T trans-European transport network.

Adif AV plans to launch tenders for the remaining six sections of the Burgos–Vitoria HSR in 2026.

The project represents a strategic investment in sustainable, efficient mobility.

It will reduce highway congestion, shorten travel times, and enhance regional competitiveness.
