The joint venture, with Mercitalia Logistics holding 51% and Medlog (an MSC Group company) 49%, underscores a commitment to bolstering existing terminals and establishing technologically advanced multimodal hubs.
The CEO of Mercitalia Logistics emphasizes that this aligns with the company’s Business Plan, facilitating increased goods transportation by train and strengthening connections between ports, terminals, and European railway corridors.
The move towards reducing long-distance road transport is not only environmentally responsible but also prioritizes employee safety and quality of life.
This milestone follows a previous agreement in September 2022, indicating a shared interest in developing combined maritime transport.
The collaboration’s overarching goal is to create new terminal capacity, enhancing maritime intermodal traffic to and from Italian ports.
By doing so, it not only improves service quality but also provides a competitive alternative to road transport, particularly along the Italy-Northern Europe axis.
These initiatives reflect the collective mission of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and MSC Group to boost the Italian economy through increased rail mobility.
The partnership represents a strategic move towards optimizing logistics solutions and embracing sustainability in the ever-evolving landscape of transportation and trade.
