One of these stations will connect with the first metro line, which has been in operation since 1986. The first line currently transports around 100,000 passengers daily, highlighting its importance in the city’s transport system.

Construction Timeline and Expected Completion

The second metro line is expected to be operational by 2029, significantly improving the city’s transport connectivity.

The travel time between the end stations will be around 20 minutes, making trips faster and more convenient for residents. This project aims to ease the pressure on the first metro line and enhance public transport availability across Belo Horizonte.

New Rolling Stock for the Second Line

The second metro line will be serviced by 24 four-car trains ordered from CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles. These trains offer smooth rides, low energy consumption, and a high level of passenger comfort. The first train is expected to arrive in Brazil in early 2026. In addition to the new trains, the outdated rolling stock on the first metro line will be replaced, improving passenger comfort since the old trains are not equipped with air conditioning.

Metrô BH has also signed a contract with Alstom to supply the train control system for both metro lines in Belo Horizonte. The new automated train operation system will enhance the safety and efficiency of metro transport services.
