ST Engineering Secures $1bn Contract for Taichung MRT Blue Line in Taiwan

ST Engineering has secured a $1.03 billion contract for the Taichung MRT Blue Line in Taiwan, marking a significant development in the city’s public transport infrastructure. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The contract, awarded by the Rapid Transit System Bureau of Taichung City Government, is part of a 14-year agreement. Operations are set to begin in the second quarter of 2025, and the project will bring crucial upgrades to Taiwan’s transport network.

ST Engineering’s Urban Solutions business is leading the project, collaborating with partners Alstom Transport, CTCI, and Hyundai Rotem.
The consortium will provide the signaling system, power supply, and rolling stock, respectively. ST Engineering, in turn, will supply the communications system, automatic fare collection, platform screen doors, and SCADA systems.
This collaboration showcases ST Engineering’s expertise and commitment to delivering large-scale rail services in Taiwan. The company’s role in this project reflects its reputation as a trusted provider of integrated transport solutions.
Taichung MRT Blue Line Enhances City Connectivity
The Taichung MRT Blue Line will stretch 24.78 km, connecting the eastern and western parts of the city. The line will feature 20 stations, including 12 underground and eight elevated stations. Fully automated, it will integrate seamlessly with the existing Green Line, significantly boosting the city’s public transport capacity.
ST Engineering’s past involvement in Taiwan’s rail projects, including its work on the Taichung MRT Green Line, further solidifies its position as a leader in the region’s transportation sector.
