New Renfe Maintenance Centers in Madrid and Catalonia

The construction, digitalization, and automation will be synthesized by the government in order to develop a quicker and more enduring maintenance network.

Some €100 million will be invested to open the new Fuencarrad Ill center in Madrid covering 18,900 square meters that will be a central base for keeping the train fleet of the Spanish capital under maintenance. A further €100 million will be used to construct three and enlarge a single workshop for the Rodalies network in Catalonia – a passenger traffic that is continuously on the increase.

Moreover, €48 million will finance new Aranjuez, Móstoles – El Soto, and Fuencarral workshops. The premises will spread maintenance workload evenly throughout the regions and lower train transfer expenses between the.depots.

Renfe to Introduce Digital Systems and Real-Time Monitoring

Under this scheme, the Renfe will modernize over 60 service and maintenance centers in Spain. The firm will install real-time monitoring technology in order to identify the problem early and avoid breakdown. It will also install automated track inspection technology, upgrade the machinery in the workshop, and upgrade the working conditions for maintenance workers.

Spain anticipates this investment will firm-up Renfe’s standing amongst Europe’s top rail operators while establishing new employment in the process. Following the Ministry of Transport, the modernization will enable the sustainable growth of a sector and lower the network’s carbon impact through the smarter maintenance of infrastructure.

Because the Renfe is the central component of Spain’s transport network, the programme will increase competitiveness and guarantee network reliability in response to increased passenger demand.
